Your plan sounds good.

One thing puzzled me about that pattern. If I remember correctly, the instructions indicate that the sleeves are picked up and knit in the round, but the picture clearly shows seams.

The yarn is beautiful and the pattern you're considering is lovely too but I think it might all be a bit much for this particular garment style. Some things look better for being simple but I know the French Girl patterns are not easy to understand either so might you actually be taking on too much? I'll be interested in what your final decision is though and will keep looking in.

Are you trying to overcomplicate it? Maybe a quick one in stocking stitch and then a more advanced version! Love the wool!

Be warned, the picture in the French Girls knit book looks nothing like the finished product if you use the pattern provided. Aparantly the wrong photo was used! See Ravelry for more details.
