I washed a sock. Then I put it in the dryer. When I took it out, it was gone.
Steven Wright
I know you'll understand. We've had many summers of sock creature creations.
The guy on the left we bought in Toronto, sans feathers, a few years ago. My son named him Lovely Feathers and he acquires more feathers each summer. To his right is his mum, officially called Mummy Lovely Feathers. Quinte and I made her. Quinte has also made Lovely Daddy Feathers, I'll save him for another day but you should know, he is much smaller than his son or wife. They sit up in the rafters of our cabin and protect us from evil spirits, and more importantly, snakes.
Our cabin is nick-nack heaven (or it could be hell if that's the way you look at things). I never get enough of combing local flea markets. Bunny bag and laundry lady store our dirty clothes.
I bet you wonder how you get along without toasty Mammy.
Someone just asked me about book recommendations. I could and probably will compile an extensive list but there is one book I really admire.
It's not easy to get a publisher to go along with untried ideas and I think Lynne Perella's book looks great, is original, and very inspiring. I highly recommend it. What's your nomination for best art/craft book?
Lynne Perella's book is full of inspiring ideas and techniques. I also like Claudine Hellmuth's Collage Discovery and look forward to her new book coming out later this month. Her Poppets remind me of Lynn Whipple's Ninnies.
By the way, I discovered your site a few days ago -- it's so much fun and I enjoy it!

My favorite craft book of the moment is "Knit Pretty." Simple, classic patterns that any dummy (ahem) can figure out.

Hundertwasser by Harry Rand, and of course Quick Kid's Quilts by Juju Vail .

That quote is so spot on! The dryer really is a virtual black hole for socks....they are always disappearing. There must be some alternate universe where they all go. ;)
& I love your toaster mammy... my toaster feels naked now.
I really like Sabrina Ward Harrison's books about "spilling open" (artwise), they are very inspiring to me.
