Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him to use the Net and he won't bother you for weeks.

I've been in full scale summer reading mode. Nothing too challenging, my mind is dulled by lake water and dock sun. Pleasantly so though.
We've been very busy this holiday. We took the kids to see Niagara Falls and we traveled around visiting friends. Usually we just come straight to the lake and sit and bake for the rest of the summer.
We've had lots of visitors and so I haven't had time to do the painting i fantasized about. I've been taking lots of pictures though. I find it difficult to do even this properly though, while entertaining, cooking, and attending to my family.
My husband and friends are gone now. It's just the kids and me so I'm pacing my day to get a little creative time in for me. So much to do!
How's everyone else managing with this. Getting any creative stuff done? How do you do it?
My goodness. I never realized before how phallic a double ice cream cone looks. Oh my.

I get a few things done a week. At least sections of the blankets I am making for friends of my daughters. :P Drawing doesn't seem to happening as of this moment. But, hey I distract my kids, and hope that I can finish before the movies ends....

I don't know. Truly, I don't know how some women do it. You see all these gorgeous blogs with amazing things being created - sewing, knitting, painting, quilting, embroidery etc etc. And I really don't know how it all gets done. My house is falling apart at the seams, my kids demand my attention all the time, it's impossible to focus on the stuff that I actually want to do. Perhaps part of the secret is to lower your expectations and try and content yourself with achieving less than you would normally want to. Still, I dunno. Perhaps if anyone figures it out they could write a self-help book for the rest of us. Then promptly retire very happily indeed with their earnings. Oooh - maybe I could pretend I have it all figured out and just lie through my teeth in my soon-to-be-released-and-hopefully-bestselling self-help book! Okay, delete the rest of this post, I've just had a brilliant idea!

Steal time !!!!!! Let the dust bunnies grow, scamper out the back door with sketchbook in hand and run off to the lake to paint. I actually took my sketchbook to the park where I run and painted after my run.
Stolen moments when everyone is out of the house. Planning books and paintings at my desk on my lunch hour. Painting in the wee hours of the morning or the dark of night.
I am considering telling all family and friends I am going off on a retreat and checking into a not too far away hotel and spending an entire week-end painting madly.
Write the time in your day planner as "AE appointment"
Use a mental health day.
Carry projects in your tote bag all the time for good use of stolen moments.

Wonderful blog you have here. Here's another one for you while at the lake:
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
