Another post? So soon? Yup. I need help. I have a knitting query.
I love this sweater (Veronique) from French Girl Knits.
It's a great circular shape. It looks pretty in the lacy mohair (Kidsilk Haze is known as the crack of yarn, in knitting circles).
But I think I would be bored knitting so much plain stockinette. Plus I have this lovely skein of Pagewood Farm lace yarn in a colour that looks like melted crayons.
I'm tempted to knit this shape using a combo of lace yarns in a simple twisting vines pattern.
And trimming all the edges with a garter version of this stitch in a two row stripe with some Dream in Color, go go grassy green.
Is this madness?
Obviously I would have to compensate for the gauge difference. Knitting it in the round, I'll be casting on 486 whooping stitches!
Can anyone see the folly of my ways before I begin?
Should I just knit a shawl with these yarns instead? I'm feeling uncertain.
Your plan sounds good.
One thing puzzled me about that pattern. If I remember correctly, the instructions indicate that the sleeves are picked up and knit in the round, but the picture clearly shows seams.

The yarn is beautiful and the pattern you're considering is lovely too but I think it might all be a bit much for this particular garment style. Some things look better for being simple but I know the French Girl patterns are not easy to understand either so might you actually be taking on too much? I'll be interested in what your final decision is though and will keep looking in.

Are you trying to overcomplicate it? Maybe a quick one in stocking stitch and then a more advanced version! Love the wool!

Be warned, the picture in the French Girls knit book looks nothing like the finished product if you use the pattern provided. Aparantly the wrong photo was used! See Ravelry for more details.

Baloney to the timid.
I love your idea for the shrug. Plain might be more suitable for dressy evening wear, but I love the multicolor yarn to jazz up a more casual outfit. It would be a lovely and versatile travel sweater. If you are with friends, or on a tour, they could easily spot you at a distance. I'm inspired.
As for how the pattern comes out, it sounds like you are skilled enough to adjust that and start over if necessary if it looks wrong.
