I spend a lot of time drawing from old embroideries in my sketchbooks.
I love the combination of embroidery, crochet and lace making on this tablecloth(?). This was part of an exhibition of traditonal handwork at L'augille on fait in Paris a couple of years ago.

Oooh...I'm only just becoming more interested in folk embroidery. I have several books of Swiss and German embroidery patterns and examples. Drawing them gives them , new life in a way...possilibities to do more with the designs then just embroider them, though that of course is a beautiful end result too. I'm thinking about baby steps: drawing and colouring them first. Thanks for feeding my interest here...great post.
